Video Happiness

| | Comments (0)

So a couple months ago I picked up this sweet little video camera, the Canon HG10. Those of you who know me won't be surprised when I say that this is a high tech camera, capable of shooting in HD and having all sorts of other bells and whistles. The camera is so high tech, in fact, that the brand new software I bought for my PC (Adobe Premiere Elements 6) can't work with its AVCHD file format. Without the ability to edit the video and share it, my fancy camera became something of a fancy paperweight. We still shot some footage here and there but always with a view toward eventually being able to show it off. Well, yesterday that all changed.

Peanut the Puppy!

| | Comments (2)

PeanutWe've been talking about it for a little while. I initially wanted to wait until we had kids... But with Charlotte running her business out of our house, I figured now was a pretty good time to do it. We got a puppy! Her name is Peanut. She's 3/4 miniature pinscher and 1/4 chihuahua, and she's 10 weeks old.

Charlotte contacted a family that'd waited two years to get her, but their 3 year-old son was used to his grandmother's big dogs and couldn't see why he should be any more gentle with this little 5 lb. dog. We went up there Wednesday night and brought her straight home.

My Husband is a Genius

| | Comments (2)

Why is my husband a genius? Because he signed us up for AAA. It had been on my To Do list for months now... but I just never got around to it. Scott had some car problems a few weeks ago, so after all that trouble he signed us both up for AAA straight away. Didn't procrastinate or wait til it was too late.

Of course, I've got a schedule full of meetings today (in the DTC, then lunch at Flat Irons) and my car decides not to start!! I had to reschedule the 10am but fortunately AAA is coming to the rescue. I called them up using the little temporary paper card that Scott gave me. They're supposed to show up in the next hour and give me a jumpstart or give me a new battery if needbe. If all goes well I should still make my lunch meeting. Then the 10am is rescheduled for 3pm, which, of course, interferes with the conference call I had set up with another client at 3pm and my 4pm workout, so hopefully I can reschedule those. Craziness!

Needless to say, Scott would have helped me with the jumpstart but he's in Brazil and his car (jumping cables included) is parked at the airport. Not to worry, though, my genius-of-a-husband would never leave me stranded... nope he made sure AAA would be available to come to my rescue when he's not around.

In the meantime, flowers...

So I'm not sure about all of you... but I am eager to get the professional photos of our wedding. It was such a magical night and I can't wait to see how it was all captured by a "professional" photographer. All the pics from our friends and families have been wonderful... but, I don't know, I'm thinking the pro photos will be even better. Supposedly, they were mailed to us a week and a half ago from Mexico. Fingers crossed they come soon!

In the meantime, enjoy these pictures that I took of the flowers in our backyard. If Scott and I have green thumbs, we have not discovered them yet! I dream of one day getting in touch with a secret passion for gardening but it just hasn't happened yet. Our yard is going crazy with weeds and hay... but the beautiful thing is that the previous owners of our home were retired and apparently loved planting flowers. And without any effort on our part, millions of flowers are blooming everywhere (okay, maybe not millions, but I counted close to 30 varieties if you count the weeds that bloom). Pretty amazing. And even more amazing is the fact that if you look at these photos (notice they're all really up close) you wouldn't even know that our yard is infested with weeds. Woohoo!

First Christmas Tree

Christmas TreeTonight Charlotte and I picked out our first ever Christmas tree. Well, the first one that doesn't fit on top of Charlotte's desk anyway.

The drive back after picking up the tree was bitter cold, what with hatchback of the Civic open and the outside temperature dipping below zero. I just hope we get to decorate it some time soon. It's shaping up to be a busy December.

Thanksgiving Dinner in Golden

TurkeyWe held our first Thanksgiving in the new house yesterday. Charlotte's mother Brigitte and sister Emilie flew out from Boston to help us celebrate. Also, our friend Jon drove down from Boulder with a delicious strawberry cheesecake for dessert.

The menu featured a 22 lb. turkey, sausage cornbread stuffing, homemade gravy, rosemary garlic mashed potatoes, yams with brown sugar, and green beans. Jon's cheesecake and a pecan pie from Wild Oats finished things off.

Finished Painting -- For Now

We finished painting the third room in the house yesterday. We covered our master bedroom walls in "designer white" with a slightly lighter off-white for the ceiling. I guess we didn't feel like being too bold. Still, it's better than the washed-out mint green that was on wall and ceiling in there before.

Trick or Treat

We had our first ever trick-or-treater's last night. I prepared by buying up a ton of candy, not being sure what to expect. My mom and step-dad routinely get hundreds and hundreds of kids within a two hour window. To be on the safe side, I bought several large bags of candy.

Unfortunately I didn't make sure to count, but I'd say we got somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 kids last night. Guess I'll have to bring in all the leftover candy into the office!

Trial Turkey Dinner

Since we've invited my mom and sister to come spend Thanksgiving with us, Scott thought it would be a good idea to make a practice turkey before the big day.

We were planning on cooking this past Sunday but the turkey didn't thaw in time. So, instead, Scott worked from home yesterday and spent the whole afternoon preparing, stuffing, basting, and checking on the turkey. And, lucky me, I got to come home from work to a mini thanksgiving meal. It was delicious! And now we have leftovers for days.

Charlotte's Walk Around Golden

| | Comments (1)

I had some vacation days that were going to expire at the end of September, so I decided to take a personal day and spend it exploring Golden. When both Scott's dad and my dad came to visit we took them for a walk downtown. It's probably about 2 miles and takes about half an hour... and the way we took them wasn't the prettiest walk. I thought there must be a nicer way to get to town, so I checked out Google maps w/ satellite overview and headed out for a day of exploration. I was right - there was a prettier way! I walked over a cool metal bridge to get over the highway, through a beautiful little park, around a reflective reservoir, and down a path that bordered a creek leading to town! See the pictures to see for yourself.
