So a couple months ago I picked up this sweet little video camera, the Canon HG10. Those of you who know me won't be surprised when I say that this is a high tech camera, capable of shooting in HD and having all sorts of other bells and whistles. The camera is so high tech, in fact, that the brand new software I bought for my PC (Adobe Premiere Elements 6) can't work with its AVCHD file format. Without the ability to edit the video and share it, my fancy camera became something of a fancy paperweight. We still shot some footage here and there but always with a view toward eventually being able to show it off. Well, yesterday that all changed.
We bought iLife '08 for Charlotte's MacBook Pro and installed it. After some wrangling and frustration, I was able to get video off the HG10 and into iMovie. The trick, by the way, is to hook up the camera first and only then fire up iMovie. After that, the application recognizes the camera and pulls down the video without any hassle. I have to say, the ease with which I'm assembling and editing videos is almost enough to make my next computer a Mac.
Anyway, with video editing under control, keep an eye on our YouTube submissions. If you subscribe to this blog either with RSS or with our new little subscribe-by-email widget on the main page, you'll be notified each time one of us posts anything.
