I've had some time to sit and reflect recently -- yes, I do have time to do so in between feedings and diaper changes... our wonderful baby sleeps a lot and I am so grateful for that! Yesterday, I was thinking. Everyone warns you that when you have a baby you're going to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Yeah, the first week took some getting used to and there are moments where I feel like I have to do a million things at the same time, and just can't. But for the most part... I feel really relaxed and I'm having a lot of fun!
I think a big part of that comes from the fact that I have been working from home for the past 2 years. Monday through Friday in this house, meant work. I would go up to my 'office' at 9am and begin my work day like everyone else, only to come downstairs for lunch. If I did end up doing household chores, taking a nap, working on personal projects, or watching tv - I would feel guilty. Now... since I am officially on 'maternity leave' ... I am at home and although taking care of the baby is demanding work, I actually feel on vacation. Home doesn't mean work any more. It's hard to describe. I can imagine this transition from working woman to stay-at-home mom being a lot harder for someone who had an office job and was used to the social aspect of going in to work every day... but is suddenly stuck at home all day, alone. I haven't had to experience that major change in my routine. Instead, being home all day has changed from work to play. And, again, I do acknowledge that I have an easy baby (for now) and a wonderful husband who is extremely helpful! I guess I'm just trying to express how grateful I am. Yay.
