Happy Baby Close-up

| | Comments (0)

Happy babyI've been wanting to take close-up photos of Sophie forever... but the time was never right. Either she's sleeping or fussy; she's had a clogged tear duct so I've been waiting for that to clear up (it's been almost a month and it's still teary, poor thing); or else I'm tired and not in the mood for a photo shoot. Today, though, I found myself inspired and somehow she managed to give me 5 awake, non-fussy minutes so I could snap a few photos. It didn't take long before she started crying though, so I'll have to try again another time. Next time, I hope to get some shots of her tiny hands and feet.

Video Happiness

So a couple months ago I picked up this sweet little video camera, the Canon HG10. Those of you who know me won't be surprised when I say that this is a high tech camera, capable of shooting in HD and having all sorts of other bells and whistles. The camera is so high tech, in fact, that the brand new software I bought for my PC (Adobe Premiere Elements 6) can't work with its AVCHD file format. Without the ability to edit the video and share it, my fancy camera became something of a fancy paperweight. We still shot some footage here and there but always with a view toward eventually being able to show it off. Well, yesterday that all changed.

January 2007 - Scott's BirthdayI've had some time to sit and reflect recently -- yes, I do have time to do so in between feedings and diaper changes... our wonderful baby sleeps a lot and I am so grateful for that! Yesterday, I was thinking. Everyone warns you that when you have a baby you're going to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Yeah, the first week took some getting used to and there are moments where I feel like I have to do a million things at the same time, and just can't. But for the most part... I feel really relaxed and I'm having a lot of fun!

Great Visit

Helping Grandma knitYesterday I dropped off some of my family that had come to Colorado to meet Sophie. It was a great visit in that we all had a terrific time. It was also great because my 91 year-old grandma (Sophie's great-grandma) came along for the ride. It was very special for her to make the trip and we all had a blast.

It's amazing how much Sophie has changed in the short while that we've had her. Already she's holding her head up a bit and really looks at whomever is talking to her. She was particularly entranced by her grandmother, who has always had such a wonderful way with babies. She also seems to have settled into a pattern of sleep where she wakes up at 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM for feedings. As far as newborns are concerned, I believe that's pretty good.

Charlotte and I are really enjoying the transition to parenthood!

Four Generations

Four GenerationsScott's family has been visiting - which has been wonderful. It's been nice for them to spend lots of quality time with Sophie and with us. This morning we finally got around to taking this 'Four Generations' photo - a nice opportunity since Scott's 91 year old grandmother made the trip out to Colorado to visit her new great granddaughter. The sun was unbelievably bright (bouncing off all the snow that's still on the ground from the Christmas day snowfall) so this outdoor shot was a bit of a challenge, but lovely nonetheless.

Leisurely afternoon on January 1st

I loved this scene and thought it merited a quick video - Al and Scott (not shown) were watching the Michigan/Florida football game, while Barbara knit a hat with Sophie fast asleep on her lap and Beverly read the New Yorker. A quiet, peaceful scene.
