Charlotte and I got up early yesterday morning and headed up to climb Mt. Bierstadt, a 14,000 ft. peak near Georgetown, CO. I've been all excited about photgraphy since we've been looking at wedding and scuba pictures, so I decided to bring up the heavy camera gear -- digital SLR, two lenses, and my heavy Bogen/Manfrotto tripod. I had thought about renting a nice wide angle lens for the hike, but I didn't look into it until Friday and the camera shop didn't have the one I wanted in stock.
The hike was nice, if a bit crowded. I'd done two 14ers before (this was Charlotte's first), and I hadn't encountered more than a half dozen people on the peak on either of them. By the time we reached Bierstadt's summit at 14,060 feet there were about eighty people up there! I hadn't seen any kids on the other 14ers, but this time whole families had made the trek to the top.
On the way back, we hit Beau Jo's Pizza in Idaho Springs for some much needed sustenance. After a power nap at home, we headed out to meet friends at the O.A.R. concert in the Pepsi Center parking lot. What a long day!!
As far as the camera equipment is concerned, I used the tripod on all of about four or five shots. Hopefully we'll be able to stitch together a nice panoramic shot. Otherwise, it was a lot of weight to carry for so little use.
