As many of our faithful readers know, yesterday was our big move day. With one small exception, which was quickly resolved, everything went amazingly smoothly. I closed on the loft at 9:00, and by the time that was over, Charlotte and the moving company had us completely moved out. Afterward, we drove over to Lakewood for the closing on our new house. That was finished by 1:30 and we dashed out to Golden to get the truck unloaded. By 2:30 PM the movers were finished and gone. We spent the rest of the evening settling in to the new place.
What a draining day. There was, of course, the inevitable writer's cramp that comes with any real estate transaction (let's just say that I yearned for the days of signing documents in triplicate). Charlotte's and my eyes glazed over shortly after the closing began, pens turned to autopilot. Then there was the leg and back pain from lifting and carrying heavy objects over and over again. Finally, there was the emotional hit that you take when you move out of a place you’ve lived in for nearly seven years. I’d lived in the loft (except for the year I traveled), since early 1999. I had a lot of great times in that place – beginning when my friends helped me move in years ago all the way to this past weekend. I was, and we were, ready to make the move, but there was a part of me that had difficulty leaving.
When we finished last night, we had the family room partially set up and the kitchen completely unpacked. We even found time to make the bed and take well-deserved (and much-needed) showers before turning in. Thanks to that hard work, the house is already feeling a little like home, though with a lot of differences. Instead of motorcycles screaming by at 100 mph, we fell asleep to the sweet lullaby of crickets and the wind rustling through the trees. Charlotte woke up this morning at 6:00 and went for a hike from the trailhead in our development. Before leaving for work, we shared a few minutes on the back porch, watching the visiting hummingbirds and hoping that our resident rabbits would make an appearance.
Though we have loads of work still to do and plenty of adjustments to make, we’re glad to finally be through the arduous real estate process and into our lovely new home!
